Abstract

Carbon block samples were prepared by adding various additives to anthracite-graphite (synthetic and natural graphite)-base carbon powders for the purpose of improving blast furnace carbon block in quality. The additives were SiO2, SiC and ZrSiO4 powders. The effect of additives on the physical, mechanical, chemical and thermal properties, especially the resistivity for molten pig iron and the rmal conductivity, of Carbon block samples was in vestigated. It was found that the addition of SiO2 and ZrSiO4 powders had an effect on improving in the resistance for alkali and rnolten pig iron but decreased markedly the thermal conductivity and that the addition of SiC improved remarkably the thermal conductivity.
