Ranula is a mucous cyst arising in the floor of the mouth. It is very rare in newborn babies. We report a case of congenital ranula.
The patient was a 4-month-old boy who had a swelling in the floor of the mouth since birth. The lesion floor did not disappear by, 4 months of age, and he was referred to the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Keio University Hospital by a pediatrician. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the presence of a cystic lesion in the floor of the mouth, measuring30×25mm.The lesion was diagnosed to be a sublingual ranula.At the age of 7 months, marsupialization of the cyst was performed with the patient under general anesthesia.
There has been no recurrence about 1 year 3 months after operation.
