The paper aims to address the importance of inspection and maintenance of electrical equipment used in liquefied petroleum gas car filling stations.
In order to maintain in operation the electrical equipment in environments with potentially explosive atmospheres under harsh conditions, the personnel involved in inspection and maintenance activities must be trained in such a way as to know the operation of these electrical equipment with different types of protection and how to perform their maintenance. Inspection and maintenance of electrical equipment with protection type of flameproof enclosure and increased safety must be carried out in accordance with EN 60079-17 and represents one of the requirements of NEx01-06(which is the legal base in Romania). Inspection is defined as the action comprising careful scrutiny of an item carried out either without dismantling, or with the addition of partial dismantling as required, supplemented by means such as measurement, in order to arrive at a reliable conclusion as to the condition of an item. Maintenance is defined as a combination of any actions carried out to retain an item in, or restore it to, conditions in which it is able to meet the requirements of the relevant specification and perform its required functions. The technical standard EN 60079-17 applies to users and covers the factors directly related to the inspection and maintenance of electrical installations within hazardous areas, where the hazard may be caused by flammable gases, vapours, mists, dusts, fibres or flying. It does not include other fundamental installation and inspection requirements for electrical installations like the verification of electrical equipment, the repair and reclamation of explosion protected equipment. |
