The article discusses issues related climate change and its influence on development strategies, as well as the resultant need to implement energy efficient solutions in the process of shaping architectural space. New rules regarding planning and developing architectural spaces require the implementation of environmental protection solutions and strategies that involve the use of construction materials, technologies and concepts that comply with the requirements of sustainable architecture. The article discusses the possibilities of using traditional, time-tested and widely available building solutions both in terms of their form and material composition. Some of these solutions and construction materials are the result of years of scientific research and experience in the field of creating construction materials with previously unattainable properties. By making use of traditional solutions that are typical for a given region, as well the materials that are readily available within it, we can produce new environmentally friendly construction materials that meet the requirements of sustainable design.
