Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Introduction

World GIS data for area 2
World GIS data for area 2

This collection comprises geophysics data, greyscale raster images, a CAD drawing and a report from a geophysical survey carried out by SUMO Geosurveys to the East of Rudgeway Lane, Wheatpieces, Tewkesbury in May 2022.

A temporary grid system was established over the site and marked out using canes. The location of the grid will be set out using an RTK GPS system theoretically accurate to some 0.01m and referenced to OS co-ordinates. Hand Held: Data will be collected using a Bartington Grad 601-2. The instrument consists of two paired sensors (see below) and readings are logged at 0.25m centres along traverses 1.0m apart across 30m grids.

The collection of data at 0.25m centres provides an appropriate methodology balancing cost and time with resolution as per Historic England guidelines. Two sensors mounted 1m horizontally apart and very accurately aligned to nullify the effects of the earth's magnetic field. Readings relate to the difference in localised magnetic anomalies compared with the general magnetic background. The magnetometer survey has detected an enclosed settlement largely in Area 1 which is comprises ditches with multiple internal sub-divisions and several possible ring ditches; it measures 160m by 125m. In Area 2 is a cluster of other anomalies which are also interpreted as being of archaeological interest: a rectilinear enclosure, an oval feature and ring ditches are all visible.

A couple of uncertain linear trends have also been recorded, while they could be due to modern processes, they may also have archaeological origins. Broad ridge and furrow ploughing is visible throughout the dataset and the routes of three service pipes have also been marked.
