A case of atypical fibroxanthoma is reported. A 79-year-old man had noticed a small hemorrhagic nodule on the parietal area of the scalp for about 6 months. It was a pale red, elastic and firm nodule 12×12mm in diameter and 3mm in height.
When he first visited our hospital.
Histopathologically, the tumor was mainly composed of fibroblast-like cells and pleomorphic histiocyte-like cells in the dermis. Mitotic figures and many foam cells were also observed. No obvious striform pattern was observed in the fibroblast-like cells. On immunohistochemical examination, the tumor stained positive for vimentin, and negative for cytekeratin, desmin and s-100 protein. There is no evidence of recurrence 15 months after excision.
