Abstract

Among clean energy sources, solar energy represents a satisfactory option to reduce greenhouse gases, therefore, institutions and researchers develop studies of new technologies to build a sustainable future. This article evaluates the literature on this topic (1,508 publications) through a bibliometric analysis using the VOSviewer software, identifying research trends and issues of most significant interest to researchers. Most documents are from Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, and Italy. The results show that the most recent approaches to solar energy are related to renewable and alternative energies, which represents a challenge to integrate these sources into energy systems with high levels of penetration. In addition, the technologies used for the generation of electricity are aimed at photovoltaic solar energy, with the purpose of improving the absorption and storage capacity of solar energy, and optimizing the stability of the electrical system.
