Abstract

This report introduce the Improvement Works of marine sub-soil foundation which were carried out for construction of man-made Island of Kansai International Airport.
The proposed site was located on the very soft sea-bed, and it was necessary to improve such soft ground by using the Vertical Drain Methods. For a part of those improvements, the Geodrain Method was chosen at the area of apporox. 10, 640m2 of revetment area and apporox. 91, 840m2 of reclaimed land area in those ground and got the same effective results as the other Vertical Drain Method.
We hereby report the out line of Works, Settlement Measurement, Cohesion, Field Observation of Consolidation and relative consideration of the Geodrain Method to make sure that this Method is clearly meet the needs of suficient improvements of the soft ground.
