Empowering remote health centre with decision support system for diagnosis and treatment using NLP and nearest neighbors algorithms

Abstract

The increasing demand for high-quality medical services coupled with the scarcity of medical experts leads to the use of electronic devices, information technology and its infrastructure in delivering health service. In line with that, this work proposes a solution to the problems of scarcity of experts especially in the remote regions of developing countries by developing a system that uses NLP and Nearest Neighbors Algorithms to learn from an online case-based repository built on a network of experts’ hospitals to aid remote health Centers in diagnosis and treatment. The results obtained from the empirical evaluation of the system show the efficiency of the system in assisting non-experts in decision making and could, therefore, improve the quality of service in the remote health center with a very minimal cost.
