Many processes can be approximated by “the first order lag time plus dead time system” in good accuracy. This paper presents an identification approach which determines lag time and dead time through limit cycle information.
An auto-tuning procedure which uses the proposed algorithm is applied to a temperature controller of the furnace, and a control example is presented to illustlate the usefulness of the algorithm.
