The flow around an obstacle, such as the fiber of a filter, or an inertial dust collector, shows intense unsteadiness, and a Kàrmàn vortex street appears behind the obstacle.
This Kàrmàn vortex street produces unsteady transverse displacement of the solid particle moving in the upstream flow of the obstacle.
In this report, the obstacle is represented by a flat plate. On the average, transverse displacement of the solid particle is 2.0 times as large as the one moving in the potential flow. The amplitude of unsteady transverse displacement is equal to the one moving in the potential flow.
A change in unsteady transverse displacement mainly depends upon when the solid particle is introduced.
