Abstract

Mucocele of the appendix is rarely complicated with intestinal intussusception. We present a 35-year-old female who was referred to our clinic for surgical treatment under a diagnosis of ileus. She complained of remarkable abdominal pain and frequent vomiting, with an occasional abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant lasting for the past two years. CT and barium enema showed intussusception of the ascending and transverse colon, which was reduced by high pressure enema. Then repeated barium enema study, ultrasonic and colonofiberscopic examinations revealed a mass in the ileocecal region. She underwent an ileocecal resection, as the tumor was found to be originating from the appendix. The pathohistological diagnosis was mucous cystadenoma of the appendix, which was filled with milky jelly-like substance.
