Abstract

1. Operation for esophageal cancer associated with hepatic cirrhosis has been performed in 11 patients at the department. Postoperative complications included pulmonary distress in 5 (45%), anastomotic leakage in 5 (45%), and hemorrhage in 2 (18%) patients. Five patients among them died during hospital stay.
2. Although it was difficult to predict the surgical risks by individual parameter, combination of multiple parameters was useful in some extent.
3. For surgical procedures, esophageal reconstruction through the antethoracal rout and preservation of the thoracic duct appeared important.
4. Massive administration of fresh frozen plasma and starting with the enteral feeding at an early postoperative period were considered to be effective.
