Abstract

From 1972 to 1975, for a full three years, the author raised the Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus for artificial incubation. One-year old Kentish Plovers hatched in an incubator and kept in captivity laid their eggs. One pair was formed and they had one brood and raised two youngs. From May 4, they began to build a nest, copulated from May 6 to May 12, laid an egg every other day, May 15, May 17, and May 19, hatched three youngs to June lb. Egg weight is each 8, 7.5 and 7.5g. The eggs are small and light as compared with the field case. It is 28 days from sitting on their eggs to hatching. It is 3 days too long compared with 25 days in the wild case.
