The article is devoted to the concept of evidence in criminal proceedings. The author draws attention to the variety of terminology. Tries to find out the reason for the different meanings that are put into the terms “proof” and “evidence”. The question of the necessity of the concept of evidence in the text of the criminal procedure law is considered. To explain the nature of the concept of evidence, the work of processualists who formed this concept before the information model of evidence was strengthened is used. The author comes to the conclusion that despite the development of the theory of evidence and the historical continuity of its provisions, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the concept of evidence.
