ABSTRACT

The Covid 19 pandemic wreaked havoc in the lives of people across the globe. The socio-economic impacts of the pandemic include job losses, closure of educational system, food and financial insecurity, increased burden of chores at home, to name a few. Even though the pandemic severely impacted all, the objective of this work is to investigate the gender discrimination suffered due to the pandemic. Secondary data of 123 different countries from across the globe has been collected for both men and women on several important and relevant parameters. Statistical tests like independent t-test for comparison of 2 populations and the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test have been used for our analysis. The new findings include increased difficulty among women for accessing medical care, reduced school time, increased job insecurity and more concern among women about access to healthcare. Consequently, women have been more worried about being stuck in their homes for long. Men suffered more job loses along with worries about pending loan repayment. Further, geographical migration has been more among men. Even though similar studies exist, no other work has utilized data spanning so many countries and also has not evaluated gender differences on so many parameters.
