Animal husbandry in the Chkalov region in 1946—1950: number, composition of livestock, products

Abstract
The article analyzes the number and composition of livestock and the production of the main types of livestock products of the Chkalov region in the first post-war years. The authors state that in the years mentioned, this sector of agriculture was in deep crisis caused, first of all, by the Great Patriotic War that had just ended. In addition, the severe weather conditions of 1946 and 1947 also did not contribute to the rapid recovery of individual and community animal husbandry. The article shows and analyzes the dynamics of meat, milk, eggs, honey and wool production in the period under study. It has been established that throughout the post-war five-year period, the number of main types of livestock grew steadily, in contrast to the main types of livestock products. Quite stable annual growth was observed in the production of eggs and wool, but the pre-war level of production was somewhat exceeded only for meat and lard and especially for milk and honey. The data presented in the work show that the individual animal husbandry, despite extremely unfavorable operating conditions and opposition from authorities, generally retained its position in the first post-war five-year period, producing most of meat, milk and eggs.
