A 22-year-old with abdominal discomfort was admitted to our hospital. Contrast X-ray studies of the upper digestive tract demonstrated external compression of the esophageal wall. Chest CT showed a solid mass in the esophageal wall. We employed transesophageal ultrasonic endoscopy for the detection and evaluation of the tumor. The characteristics of the tumor border and internal echoes demonstrated a cyst. Histologically, the tumor was an esophageal cyst. Transesophageal ultrasonic endoscopy was very useful in the diagnosis of this esophageal cyst.
