On the Lentz Double Compound Steam Engine of S. S.“Peking Maru.”

Abstract

The main engine equipped on S. S.“Peking Maru, ” 80.8m. in length and 2, 265.86 gross ton, is the first pure Lentz Double Compound Engine built in Japan. The trial trips were carried out on December 1937, with satisfactory results. Maximum trial speed was 15.187 Knots at 2, 775 I.H.P. and at 104.1 r.p.m.
In these papers some detail constructions and merits of the engine are explained together with the trial results of“Peking Maru.”
