During the dissection practice for students in 1973, the following two variations in the left Sternocleidomastoid and the Anterior Scalene were encountered. No.282 : Age 56, male. 1. The extra muscle of the left Sternocleidomastoid arises from the anterior part of the clavicle. Crossing the surface of the other muscle arising from lateral part of the clavicle, this extra muscle joins in Sternocleidomastoid as a small part of the lateral muscle bundle. 2. The extra muscle of the left Anterior Scalene arises from the transverse process of the fourth cervical vertebra. Running downward behind the normal muscle head arising from the same process, this extra muscle joins in the posterior face of the Anterior Scalene as a small bundle. Fifth and sixth cervical nerves run between this extra muscle and the Anterior Scalene.
