Embolism is the most serious complication of carotid endarterectomy. Dissection of the internal carotid artery is likely to lead to embolic complications. After dissecting the connective tissue around the carotid bifurcation, we clamp the common and external carotid arteries and expose the internal carotid artery under the control of blood flow. This technique is feasible and effective for preventing embolism during carotid endarterectomy.
