Abstract:
Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology has an important presence in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) sector, where the use of Virtual Reality (VR) or Mixed Reality (MR) technologies is also increasing in all project phases. Both BIM and VR or MR methodologies provide important advantages over traditional project methodologies. In turn, their application in teaching would allow not only to benefit from multiple advantages, but also to train students in matters related to digitization in the AECO sector. The objective of this project is to implement BIM visualization using VR hardware in the subject of Risk Management and Prevention in Engineering, taught at the Civil Engineering School of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Through this VR implementation, it is sought that students would improve their infrastructure knowledge thanks to the virtual environment provided. The main results are the development and real application of a BIM visualization tool, based on Unity programming, and whose use is evaluable in the subject taught.
