Abstract

How can a non-native speaker teach speaking of English to students whgo are not good at it? This paper shows the explorations the author made in her class. English learning can be classified into three stages : input, intakem, and output. The Direct Method is discussed in the input and intake stages, while the Communicative Approach and Counseling Learnig are talked about in the output stage. Personalization of English speaking, selection of conversation topics, use of the students' native language, the teacher's repetition as error correction, generating interaction among the students, removal of anxiety, and the role of the teacher are the main issues calling for reflection.
