Abstract:
The almond growing in Spain has a great economic and social importance, having an important number of traditional varieties.
In orchard management, pruning young trees is very important, to make them productive and easy to work with in an orchard.
In this work the pruning training young tree criteria and growth habits of eight Spanish traditional varieties have been studied.
The study of the growth habits was carried out during the first year, without having intervened with pruning; the answer to the pruning matter was studied in the second year, implanting two pruning intensities, high and low.
All studied varieties have presented, in general, good growth habits and do not need very strong pruning intervention in order to obtain a good structure.
