Abstract:
Pistachio can be contaminated by fungal agents during ripening in the orchard, harvesting process and storage. So, it seems that investigation on pistachio mycoflora is required every now and then. In this investigation, one hundred and eighty-four dry pistachio samples were randomly collected from storages and pistachio selling stores in different areas of Kerman province. The samples belonged to all common varieties of pistachio. The pistachio shell and kernel were separated for each sample and treated in two ways, without and with surface sterilization. In order to isolate the fungi, the samples were put on sterilized wet filter papers (blotter test), PDA and Czapek medium in petri dish. After mycelial growth or sporulation, the fungi were transferred to a fresh PDA or Czapek medium to form a separate colony. As a result, the identified fungi were Scytalidium thermophilum, Ulocladium alternariae, Alternaria tenuissima, Alternaria sp., Acremonium sp., Aspergillus Niger, A. flavus, A. parasiticus, A. phoenicis, A. terreus, A. puniceus, Aspergillus sp., Rhizopus sp. and Penicillium sp. Of these fungi, Scytalidium thermophilum, Ulocladium alternariae, Alternaria tenuissima, Aspergillus phoenicis and Aspergillus puniceus are new for Iranian pistachio mycoflora.
