Abstract:
The growth pattern of a cultivated tomato plant (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ‘Zhongza No.9’, Chinese variety) in relation to the effective temperature accumulation (ETA) was simulated with a mathematic model. The growth curves of the horizontal diameter, vertical diameter, fresh weight and dry weight of the tomato fruits all show the typical “S”-shaped Logistic curves. The coefficient is 0.9966. It suggests that the effective accumulated temperature plays an important role in the development of the tomato fruits. The close match of the model-simulated and the measured values indicates that the model may be used to preview the stages of the tomato fruit development.
