Abstract:
The typical litchi and longan production systems of Guangdong are evaluated and compared with the planting systems and agricultural systems in other regions by using energy and emergy analysis.
The result showed that energy input and emergy input for this system were higher than those plantings in Guangdong China and in the developed countries.
However, the input/output ratio of the energy and emergy was lower.
This suggests that the emergy input should be improved.
The key point for improvement is to increase the yields, to reduce the usage of the chemical fertilizer and pesticides, to increase energy input from renewable resource and to adopt new science and technology in cultivation.
