DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.2001.548.11
Abstract:
Fertilizer use efficiency is important because careless application can lead to nutrient imbalance in the growth medium and excessive leaching of polluting nutrients into the environment. The ideal of optimal fertilizer application to a crop throughout the entire cropping season in accordance with the changing needs of the plants for nutrients, has come close to reality in greenhouse vegetable production, due to a greatly improved understanding of plant nutrition and the availability of sophisticated fertilizer delivery systems. This paper discusses the basic philosophical approach in applying the current scientific knowledge on greenhouse cucumber nutrition by means of a seasonal fertigation schedule. The Harrow Fertigation Manager is used as an example of existing fertigation control technology.
