Abstract:
In Hungary, peach growing is based on the use of only two rootstocks. The aim of our trial was to evaluate additional rootstocks. The results of the first two years were analysed according to the rootstocks and scion varieties.

Varieties can be divided into two groups based on our results. Weinberger and Stark Redgold are medium vigorous, Snow Queen is vigorous. Between yellow-fleshed nectarines, Weinberger showed slightly more vigour. The rootstocks were divided into three groups. The growth of trees grafted on GF 43 and GF 655–2 was distinctly weak. This is unfavourable in the early period of tree training. The growth characteristics showed medium values in Prunus besseyi, GF 8–1, Rubira, Citation, peach and almond seedlings. It was found that, at the end of the second year, the most vigorous rootstock was GF 677.
