Abstract:
In order to increase fruit yield and quality of strawberry, a study on six strawberry cv. (Honeoye, Redchief, Lester, Cruz, Dorit and Douglas) was carried out in a heated plastic house in 1992–93.
Plants of these cultivars were obtained by rooting runner plants in plastic tubes during spring time, then replanting them in a plastic house in July 1992. Fertilizer was applied at two different doses (0.5 g/l and 1 g/l) at 15-day intervals during the vegetation period.
Fruits were sampled monthly and total soluble solids were determined.
The highest yield was obtained from Douglas with 550 g/plant, followed by Dorit, Cruz, Lester and Redchief, while the lowest yield was obtained from Honeoye with 156 g/plant.
Plants receiving (0.5 g/l fertilizer) yielded 334 g/plant, vs. 315 g/plant for these receiving 1 g/l.
