Abstract:
The widely grown strawberry cultivars in Latvia are: Kokinskaja Rannaja, Zephyr, Fracunda (early); Festivalnaja, Venta (middle early); Tenira, Senga Sengana and Redgauntlet (late). At the Pure Horticultural Research Station the general objectives are the testing of newly introduced cultivars and breeding; and the development of propagation systems for healthy strawberry plants. Among new cultivars the interest is focused on Istochnik, Desnanka, Korona, Sjupriz Olimpiadi and Roxana. In special trials, healthy micropropagated plants of the cultivars Senga Sengana and Festivalnaja have yielded 180% to 220% of traditionally propagated plants.
