ISHS Acta Horticulturae 373: I International Congress on Almond

YIELDS MODEL FOR SPANISH ALMONDS

Author:   J.R. Murua
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1994.373.46
Abstract:
Spanish almond production area has increased dramatically over the last two decades. Even though the almond industry has developed widely, it did not evolve into a modern industry. Almond yields vary sharply from one year to other and in addition they show a downwards trend over time.

The variation in almond yields is partially explained by alternate bearing cycles, however alternate cycles may be affected to some extent by weather conditions. The almond production on non-irrigated land is extremely sensitive to weather conditions, mainly to the weather events during the blooming period.

Average yields have been predicted with reasonably accuracy as a function of past yields, weather conditions and some other measurable factors.
