Abstract:
In this study carried out in 1988 and 1990 under Cukurova ecological conditions, 4 almond types (7–21, 48–2, 48–3 and 48–5) selected from Turkey were used.
FDA and TTC pollen viability tests were applied and pollen germination tests, with hanging drop method in sucrose (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 %) were performed to the experimental almond types.
Pollen tube development on self and cross pollinated almond types were investigated under fluorescent microscope on the daily sampled material.
Pollen viability and germination tests gave quite similar results.
While pollen tubes couldn't reach to the ovule on self pollinated flowers, in cross pollinated flowers pollen tubes reached to the ovule within 5 and 13 days.
