Abstract:
The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of McGill University offers a range of programs in horticulture from a Diploma to post doctoral training. The Diploma in Agriculture program is a 2½ year technical and management training program which includes 32 weeks of farm experience. Two Bachelors of Science in horticulture programs are available: the Horticultural Science option, comprising courses in basic and applied sciences and economics, and the Horticultural Business Management option which combines management, economics and accounting with the horticultural sciences and industry-related courses. At the graduate level both Masters and Ph.D. programs are available. The aim of the Masters program is to develop students' skills in research. Doctoral programs allow students to develop their independent research skills and undertake an original research project. Facilities at McGill include a 10-hectare horticulture field research and teaching centre, comprising conventional and organic areas, orchards, small fruit plantations and polytunnels, and research glasshouses, phytotrons and cold storage facilities.
