PRODUCTION OF TRANSPLANTS OF CARROT (DAUCUS CAROTA L.) THROUGH ADVENTITIOUS SHOOTS BY USING RED LIGHT

DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1992.319.46
Abstract:
In this research, the effects of red light on induction and cultivation of adventitious shoots from carrot callus was investigated. Additionally, the effect of red light on induction of roots on the adventitious shoots was investigated.

Callus cultured under red light condition induced adventitious shoots which covered completely the surface of the callus. Next these adventitious shoots were planted and irradiated again with red light from above. Then new adventitious shoots and roots were induced on the surface of these shoots. However, the adventitious root induction on the surface irradiated with red light was suppressed compared to those cultured under darkness or white light conditions.

This study shows that red light irradiation promotes shoot formation and growth, and inhibits root induction.
