Ecosystem services in Sahelian village landscapes 1952-2016: Estimating change in a data scarce region_data
This data set consists of files used to estimate the change in provisioning ecosystem services over time in six village landscapes in rural Burkina Faso. We estimate changes in ten key provisioning ecosystem services between 1952 and 2016. We used a simple model of plausible social-ecological changes to make an historical extrapolation that bridges data gaps and assess historical changes. Our approach combines the interpretation of historic aerial photographs and satellite images, with field observations and interviews. We apply the approach for six villages in two administrative regions for six points in time. We perform a linear, a high and a low estimate of the combined effect of change in generation and value to people to assess change in provisioning ecosystem services over time.
