Archeologisch onderzoeksbureau Archeodienst Gelderland heeft een Bureauonderzoek en Inventariserend Veldonderzoek (IVO) uitgevoerd in het plangebied aan de Hooglandseweg 1A te Braamt, gemeente Montferland. Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd in het kader van de vrijstellingsprocedure ex artikel 19 WRO ten behoeve van de geplande ontwikkeling van het plangebied. De opdrachtgever wil een nieuwe woning op een deel van zijn perceel gaan bouwen. Het perceel staat kadastraal bekend onder de naam: Gemeente Montferland, sectie G, perceel 2296. De graafwerkzaamheden zullen leiden tot een bodemverstoring van maximaal 2 meter beneden het huidige maaiveld niveau. Eventueel aanwezige archeologische resten zullen daarbij verloren gaan. Het onderzoek vond plaats op 19 mei 2009.
Het onderzoek had een karterend karakter. Het onderzoek is op een andere wijze uitgevoerd dan van te voren was gepland. Archeodienst Gelderland wilde eigenlijk een kareterend booronderzoek op de locatie uitvoeren. De opdrachtgever had echter de bouwvoor reeds verwijderd, waardoor de archeologische laag grotendeels was verdwenen. Het eventuele sporenniveau is echter nog wel intact aanwezig. Het terrein is onderzocht op de aanwezigheid van archeologische indicatoren of sporen maar er is geen aanwijzing gevonden dat het terrein vroeger in gebruik is geweest als nederzettingsterrein of grafveld. Er zijn wel enkele esgreppels aangetroffen die waarschijnlijk uit de 19e eeuw dateren. Het terrein heeft in de laatste twee eeuwen dus een agrarisceh functie gehad. Dit was echter ook al op basis van het bureauonderzoek bekend. Een archeologisch vervolgonderzoek wordt niet noodzakelijk geacht.
