Inventariserend archeologisch onderzoek door middel van proefsleuven en boringen aan de Streekweg 269-275 in Hoogkarspel, gemeente Drechterland.
ConclusiesHet onderzoek heeft in lijn met de archeologische verwachting resten opgeleverd uit de prehistorie, Middeleeuwen en Nieuwe Tijd. Uit de Bronstijd kwamen greppelsystemen tevoorschijn en de aangetroffen waterput of -kuil verraad mogelijk de aanwezigheid van een huiserf in de directe omgeving.
De middeleeuwse resten beperkten zich tot sloten en afgedankte huisraad uit de gedempte sloten en insteekhavens of aanlegplaatsen. Het opschuiven van de slooteindes in de loop der tijd steeds verder van de Streekweg werd al eerder opgemerkt en hier in Hoogkarspel wederom waargenomen. Het verschuiven de slooteindes hangt waarschijnlijk nauw samen met de grootschalige ophogingen direct langs het lint. Het vermoeden bestaat dat men in deze periode voor het eerst dichter op het lint gaat wonen bovenop deze ophogingen.
Naast middeleeuwse bewoningsindicatoren heeft het onderzoek ook resten van huizen uit de Nieuwe Tijd aangetroffen. De kelders, uitbraaksporen en afvaldumps zijn afkomstig van minimaal drie huizen op twee percelen. Vermoedelijk ligt er meer naar het oosten nog een derde perceel met bewoningsresten uit de Nieuwe Tijd binnen het plangebied. De huizen zullen deels zijn opgetrokken uit baksteen en deels uit hout.
In tegenstelling tot andere middeleeuwse vindplaatsen in oostelijk West-Friesland lijkt er hier geen hiaat te bestaan in gebruik of bewoning. Doorgaans is er een 12de- of in ieder geval 13de-eeuwse component aanwezig maar ontbreekt materiaal uit de 14de en 15de eeuw grotendeels. Tot nu toe was er slechts één vindplaats langs de Streekweg onderzocht – uiten Enkhuizen – waar vondstmateriaal uit deze periode voorhanden was.138 In Hoogkarspel is de 14de en 15de eeuw goed vertegenwoordigd. Deze vindplaats is daarom belangrijk voor onze kennis van de materiële cultuur en de omgang met afval in deze periode.
