In het gebied Ter Borch, bij Eelderwolde, is de ontwikkeling van woningen, een bedrijventerrein en een transferium gepland. Door onderzoeksbureau De Steekproef is in het kader hiervan in 2002 een verkennend archeologisch onderzoek uitgevoerd. Dit leverde een aantal terreinen met een hoge archeologische verwachting op. Zes van deze terreinen betreffen zandruggen waarop resten van prehistorische bewoning te verwachten zijn. Deze terreinen zijn aangemerkt als vindplaatsen (A t/m F). Vanwege de bedreiging door de geplande bouwactiviteiten, was het nodig om op vindplaatsen A t/m D een uitgebreider archeologisch onderzoek uit te voeren. De opdracht voor het onderzoek is door de gemeente Tynaarlo verleend aan Archaeological Research & Consultancy (ARC bv). Het onderzoek is tussen 30 januari en 10 februari, en op 5 juli 2004 uitgevoerd.
Conclusie:Tijdens het archeologische onderzoek zijn vier zandruggen, vindplaatsen A t/m D, binnen het plangebied Ter Borch door middel van megaboringen onderzocht. De verwachting was dat op deze locaties prehistorische bewoningsresten aanwezig zouden kunnen zijn. Tijdens het onderzoek zijn geen overtuigende aanwijzingen gevonden voor de aanwezigheid van archeologische vindplaatsen ter plaatse. De hoeveelheid aangetroffen vondstmateriaal is minimaal. Het aardewerk, baksteen, glas en metaal is waarschijnlijk tijdens bemesting van het land aangevoerd. Het aangetroffen vuursteen betreft materiaal dat van nature in de bodem voorkomt. Dit betekent dat ondanks de grotendeels intacte bodemopbouw de archeologische waarde van deze vindplaatsen laag is.
