ADC ArcheoProjecten heeft voor de gemeente Bussum een Inventariserend Veldonderzoek in de vorm van proefsleuven uitgevoerd in de Spijkerstraat en omgeving. De gemeente richt het plangebied opnieuw in, waarbij het rioleringssysteem wordt vervangen en uitgebreid met een apart systeem voor hemelwaterafvoer, tevens worden nieuwe parkeerplaatsen gerealiseerd.Vooruitlopend op de werkzaamheden heeft ARC bv een bureau- en booronderzoek uitgevoerd om de aardwetenschappelijke en archeologische waarden in kaart te brengen. Deze onderzoeken hebben vastgesteld dat het onderzoeksgebied op de westflank van een stuwwal ligt op een smeltwaterwaaier of sandr afgedekt door dekzand. Hierin is tijdens het Holoceen een haarpodzolbodem ontwikkeld. Vanaf de Late Middeleeuwen is het potstalsysteem van bemesting geïntroduceerd, dat lokaal tot ophoging van de landbouwgrond heeft geleid. Het booronderzoek heeft aangetoond dat grote delen van de ondergrond zijn verstoord bij de aanleg van de woonwijk in het midden van de 20e eeuw. Daar waar de ondergrond niet verstoord is, is een intact bodemopbouw met haarpodzolprofiel vastgesteld, resten van een eerddek zijn niet aangetroffen. Er is vervolgonderzoek geadviseerd voor de niet-verstoorde delen van het plangebied, omdat daar mogelijk archeologische waarden behouden zijn.Het vervolgonderzoek is door de gemeente vastgesteld in de vorm van proefsleuven, waarbij 10 % van het onderzoeksgebied wordt onderzocht, verdeeld over vijf proefsleuven. Vanwege de planning van de herinrichtingswerkzaamheden in het plangebied is het veldonderzoek uitgevoerd in drie fases. In alle proefsleuven zijn profielopnames gemaakt, waarbij is geconstateerd dat de bodemopbouw een haarpodzol is. Op één locatie volledig intact, op andere plekken ontbreken de A-/E- en soms een deel van de B-horizont. In tegenstelling tot het booronderzoek zijn er in verschillende profielkolommen resten van een esdek geobserveerd. Ondanks de intacte bodemopbouw en de beschermende laag van het esdek zijn er in het onderzoeksgebied geen antropogene sporen aangetroffen ouder dan de ingrepen die samenhangen met het bestaande rioleringssysteem. Waarschijnlijk waren de arme zandgronden niet aantrekkelijk genoeg om te bewonen of te bewerken totdat het potstalsysteem van bemesting werd geïntroduceerd.Wegens het ontbreken van archeologische waarden in de vorm van grondsporen of vondsten adviseert ADC ArcheoProjecten het terrein vrij te geven voor de herinrichtingswerkzaamheden.
