In opdracht van Terra Agribusiness heeft RAAP Archeologisch Adviesbureau op 18 september 2008 een bureau- en inventariserend veldonderzoek uitgevoerd in verband met de bouw van een ligboxenstal in de gemeente Hellendoorn. Doel van dit onderzoek was allereerst het middels bureauonderzoek verwerven van informatie over bekende en te verwachten archeologische waarden teneinde een gespecificeerde verwachting op te stellen. Het doel van het veldonderzoek was vervolgens die verwachting te toetsen en voor zover mogelijk een eerste indruk te geven van de kwaliteit (gaafheid en conservering) aard datering omvang en diepteligging van eventueel aangetroffen archeologische vindplaatsen. Op basis van de onderzoeksresultaten en de aard en omvang van de voorgenomen bodemingrepen in het plangebied is vervolgens een advies met betrekking tot archeologisch vervolgonderzoek geformuleerd. Op basis van de resultaten van het bureauonderzoek gold bij de aanvang van het veldonderzoek voor het plangebied een hoge archeologische verwachting voor waardevolle (intacte) vindplaatsen (archeologische overblijfselen) uit de periode Paleolithicum t/m Nieuwe tijd. Het plangebied maakt namelijk deel uit van een terrein van hoge archeologische waarde. Tijdens het veldonderzoek is door middel van boringen een archeologische vindplaats aangetroffen. In 3 boringen zijn archeologische indicatoren waargenomen aan de basis van het esdek. Het betreft waarschijnlijk een nederzettingsterrein dat zich ver buiten de grenzen van het plangebied uitstrekt. Mogelijk gaat het om een huisplaats uit de IJzertijd. En moet dan ook serieus rekening mee worden gehouden dat zich ter plaatse nog grondsporen en dergelijke in de ondergrond bevinden. Gezien de onderzoeksresultaten en de voorgenomen ingrepen in het plangebied kan worden geconcludeerd dat bij de uitvoering hiervan vermoedelijk archeologische waarden zullen worden verstoord. Op basis hiervan wordt aanbevolen aanvullend archeologisch vooronderzoek in het plangebied te laten verrichten. Geadviseerd wordt om dit vervolgonderzoek plaats te laten vinden in de vorm van een proefsleuvenonderzoek conform het protocol inventariserend veldonderzoek voor proefsleuven (zie hoofdstuk 4). Met betrekking tot de bevindingen van dit onderzoek dient contact opgenomen te worden met de gemeente Hellendoorn.
