Geïnterviewde 14, 'Wies' (1948), wordt na de lagere school zeer tegen haar zin door haar ouders naar pensionaat Jerusalem in Venray gestuurd. Geïnterviewde ervaart het pensionaat als een gevangenis. Ze heeft grote moeite met de permanente controle en de willekeur van de religieuzen. Ze zoekt voortdurend naar ontsnappingsmogelijkheden. Later in haar leven zal blijken dat geïnterviewde aan haar kostschooltijd een trauma heeft overgehouden. Therapie, o.a. emdr, helpt haar dat verleden deels te verwerken, maar het risico van terugval is nog altijd niet helemaal verdwenen.

In de nasleep van het misbruikschandaal in de katholieke kerk (rond 2010) interviewde schrijver en journalist Truska Bast in de periode 2015-2016 ruim twintig mannen en vrouwen die tussen pakweg 1945 en 1970 op een katholieke kostschool hebben gezeten. Uit wat voor gezinnen kwamen deze kinderen destijds? Wat was de reden dat hun ouders hen naar kostschool stuurden? Hoe zag het dagelijks leven op zo’n school eruit? Wat was bijvoorbeeld de rol van vriendschap? In hoeverre stond het leven in het teken van religie? En hoe kijken de oud-leerlingen terug op deze periode? Aan het woord komen enkele slachtoffers van seksueel misbruik. Zij zijn zwaar beschadigd en worstelen nog altijd met de gevolgen. Anderen, met name vrouwen, hebben ernstig geleden onder de emotionele onveiligheid. Maar er zijn ook oud-leerlingen bij, zowel mannen als vrouwen, die hun ouders dankbaar zijn dat ze naar kostschool mochten omdat zij daardoor een opleiding hebben gekregen die in die tijd elders niet mogelijk was en waarvan ze nog altijd de vruchten plukken. De interviews mondden uit in het boek Uw wil geschiede, Kinderen op katholieke kostscholen, dat in september 2017 verscheen bij uitgeverij Querido.
