In opdracht van de gemeente Vught heeft het onderzoeks- en adviesbureau BAAC bv een archeologisch bureauonderzoek uitgevoerd voor het plangebied Bergenshuizen te Vught. Uit het bureauonderzoek blijkt dat het plangebied deel uit maakt van een relatieve hooggelegen dekzandkop die zowel in westelijke als in oostelijke richting overgaat in lagere gelegen zandgronden. Dergelijke gebieden op een landschappelijke gradiënt vormden van oudsher aantrekkelijke vestigingsplaatsen. Ten oosten van het plangebied lag in ieder geval vanaf de 12e- 13e eeuw het buurtschap Bergenshuizen. Mogelijk bevinden zich op de akker, oftewel in het plangebied, sporen van oudere bewoning. Vanaf de 15e eeuw is men begonnen de akkers te bemesten met een mengsel van plaggen en stalmest. Hierdoor is langzamerhand een plaggendek ontstaan met over het algemeen een dikte van 50 cm of meer en raakte het oorspronkelijke bodemprofiel, en dus mogelijk aanwezige archeologische sporen, tegen bodemverstoringen beschermd. Als gevolg van het eeuwenlange gebruik als akker zal het natuurlijke bodemprofiel op de hogere delen van het plangebied naar verwachting grotendeels in het cultuurdek zijn opgenomen. In de tweede helft van de twintigste eeuw is in het plangebied een sportveldencomplex aangelegd met bebouwing en infrastructuur. Voorafgaand aan de aanleg van de velden is het gebied geëgaliseerd. Als gevolg van de bebouwing en de aanleg van kabels en leidingen zal plaatselijk sprake zijn van diepere verstoring. Tevens is er voor het gebied een ontgrondingsvergunning afgegeven. In het hoogteverloop zijn er echter geen duidelijke aanwijzingen aanwezig dat deze ontgronding ook daadwerkelijk is uitgevoerd. Door de aanwezigheid van een plaggendek is de verwachting dat de bodem slechts lokaal verstoord is en het archeologisch sporenniveau nog grotendeels intact zal zijn. Op basis van deze gegevens wordt aan de hogere delen van het plangebied een hoge verwachting voor archeologische waarden van landbouwers uit het neolithicum tot en met de volle middeleeuwen toegekend. Voor de lagere gelegen zones geldt een middelhoge verwachting voor deze periode. Gezien de verwachte verploeging van het natuurlijke bodemprofiel geldt voor onverstoorde vuursteenvindplaatsen uit het laat-paleolithicum tot en met het neolithicum een lage tot middelhoge verwachting. Voor een klein gebied in het uiterste oostelijke deel van het plangebied geldt vanwege de ligging in het buurtschap Bergenshuizen een hoge verwachting voor archeologische resten uit de late middeleeuwen en nieuwe tijd. De verwachting in de bebouwde delen en mogelijk ontgronde delen van het plangebied is naar beneden gesteld naar respectievelijk laag en middelhoog vanwege de verwachte verstoring. Als gevolg van de geplande werkzaamheden zal de bodem tot 10 à 20 cm –mv (bestaande parkeerplaatsen), 50 cm –mv (kunstgrasveld en maximaal 80 cm –mv (nieuw aan te leggen parkeerplaats) worden verstoord. Of bij de werkzaamheden het archeologisch sporenniveau verstoord of zelfs geheel vernietigd wordt, is sterk afhankelijk van de dikte van het cultuurdek. Derhalve wordt geadviseerd om in de gebieden die dieper dan 30 cm –mv worden verstoord een verkennend booronderzoek uit te voeren.
