Anny was een van de drie kinderen van Sjang Beterams en Nella Heesen in Venray. Hij werkte als postbode. De ouders hadden Zilli Bak in huis genomen die daar leefde onder de schuilnaam van Thea Maarschalkerweerd. De vrouw die dit meisje had ondergebracht bij de familie Beterams wilde dat ze katholiek opgevoed zou worden. Daar stak vader Beterams een stokje voor. Dat moet ze na de oorlog maar zelf beslissen, zei vader. Het bijzondere van dit verhaal is dat tegenover de familie Beterams twee Rijksduitse families woonden. Zilli ging spelen met de oudste dochter van Theo Lumler. Ze was een zeer bijdehand kind. Na de oorlog wilde de familie Beterams het meisje definitief opnemen in het gezin omdat haar beide ouders waren omgekomen. Een jaar na de bevrijding werd het kind opgeeist door een broer van Zilli’s vader. Op 18 febr 1950 is Zilli bij een tragisch verkeersongeval om het leven gekomen. Ze was per fiets op weg naar school. Anny Binsbergen en haar man bezoeken jaarlijks nog het graf van 'hun' zusje op het Joods kerkhof in Muiderberg.

Maria van de Rijt-Van Geffen was 12 toen de oorlog uitbrak. Ze was het oudste kind in een streng katholiek gezin in Tienray. Tegenover hen woonde de vroedvrouw Hanna van de Voort. Samen met de Nijmeegse student Nico Dohmen wist Hanna in de jaren 1943-1944 meer dan 120 Joodse kinderen uit Amsterdam bij Noord-Limburgse gezinnen te laten onderduiken. Ook Maria kreeg een Joods ‘zusje’, Floortje Paauw. Aanvankelijk vond Maria dat niet leuk en dus vertelde ze Floortje dat de Joden Christus hadden gekruisigd. Het Joodse meisje nam wraak door met haar modderschoenen over de witte was te lopen.Deze en andere verhalen van Noord-Limburgse kinderen die in de oorlog een Joods broertje of zusje kregen, zijn audiovisueel vastgelegd. Hoe hebben deze Limburgse kinderen het beleefd? Hoe was het om plotseling ouders te moeten delen? En welke impact maakte de soms slechte afloop van de onderduik? Zo was Maria van de Rijt erbij toen Floortje in juli 1944 door Duitse militairen werd weggehaald. Maria moest Floortje aankleden. Het meisje kwam niet meer terug. Op 6 september 1944 werd ze vermoord in Auschwitz.
