Author and hero of a biographical novel: Aspects of communication (Based on Stepan Protsyuk’s novel “Masks are slowly falling off”)

Section: BIOGRAPHICAL STUDIES

Abstract: The aim of the study – to analyze the reasons for S. Protsyuk ‘s appeal to the genre of psychography, to the creation of artistic images of certain writers, in particular – to the personality of Volodymyr Vynnychenko, whose biography he created through the prism of psychoanalysis. In the article we use general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis based on the principles of historicism and objectivity. Also biographical, comparative and psychoanalytic methods are applied. Scientific novelty work is that for the first time numerous interviews with S. Protsyuk and his novel “Masks are slowly falling off” show the connection between the author and the protagonist, aspects of their communication, the artist’s achievement of the desired unity with his hero and its artistic expression through the character’s biography.

Keywords: Stepan Protsyuk, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, psychography, biography, novel, author, hero, communication.
