“In this amazing dawn of our – our lost – capital” (Mykola Khvyliovyi in Oleksa Varavva’s memoirs)

Abstract: The paper’s objective. It is our objective to show, based on “Writer’s notes” by Oleksa Varavva (Kobets), the influence of Mykola Khvyliovyi (the star of extraordinary brightness) on Kyiv literature community in 1920th. Also, to reconstruct the connection between the two writers in Kharkiv, who were living in Kharkiv house “Slovo” and were close friends. Separately, we aim at discovering social and political mood among Ukrainian humanitarians between 1920th and 1930th on examples of their day-to-day life. To revisit the funeral of Mykola Khvyliovyi based on memoirs of Oleksa Varavva as he was his close friend, and after Mykola committed suicide, was among close friends who was handling the funeral ceremony. Research methodology is based on historism, scientific objectivity, systemic approach principles. General historic methods were used, among others: bibliographical, problem-based, microhistorical, retrospective and prosopographical. Scientific novelty is based on usage of rarely available and either unpublished or partially published and on yet not published materials that are scientifically used for the first time, ie memoirs and memoir materials of the writer’s and editor’s heritage.
