Abstract
This article examines Nynive, the second Lady of the Lake, in Malory’s Morte Darthur. It reads her in a hybrid context, arguing that her hybridity allows her to occupy a unique position within the Morte. This position goes beyond her roles in the Vulgate and situates her as a defender of Arthur’s court and a dispenser of justice within it. In turn, understanding Nynive’s hybridity allows us to understand how she finds and claims power in the Morte through assisting the court, upholding it from a positionality that is unique to her.

Cet article examine le personnage de Nynive, la seconde Dame du Lac, dans le Morte Darthur de Malory. Il la considère en utilisant le concept d’hybridité et soutient que son hybridité lui permet d’occuper une position unique dans le Morte. Cette position dépasse ses rôles dans le cycle Vulgate et la situe en tant que défenseur de la cour d’Arthur et dispensatrice de justice en son sein. En comprenant son hybridité, nous pouvons aussi comprendre comment elle trouve et prend le pouvoir dans le Morte en aidant et soutenant la cour grâce à sa position unique.
Zusammenfassung
Dieser Aufsatz widmet sich Nimue, der zweiten Herrin vom See in Malorys Morte Darthur. Nimue wird hier gezielt in einem hybriden Kontext gedeutet, wobei argumentiert wird, dass ihr gerade aufgrund ihrer Hybridität eine besondere und einzigartige Stellung innerhalb des Morte Darthur zukommt. Diese Stellung geht weit über die Nimue im Vulgata-Zyklus zugeschriebene Rolle hinaus und positioniert sie als Verteidigerin und Rechtsprecherin am Artushof. Umgekehrt bietet dieses Verständnis von Nimues Hybridität außerdem einen Einblick in die Art und Weise, mittels derer sie im Morte Darthur Macht findet und beansprucht, indem sie dem Hof assistiert und diesen in einer ihr eigenen Position aufrechterhält.
