Abstract
In the field of German as a foreign language (GFL), orthography plays a very minor role in general with questions of punctuation rarely considered at all. Based on this observation, the article examines firstly the causes of this situation. Secondly, it investigates whether specific challenges existwith regard to didactics of punctuation among GFL learners. To this end, a survey was conducted among GFL teachers who teach non-native speakers with a wide range of first languages. Having presented and discussed the results of this survey, the paper finishes with certain demands for punctuation didactics in the area of GFL.
