In this paper an attempt is made to show the relations of stretchings to geological structures and how they have originated. In the Sanbaawa metamorphic region with wavy folds, the stretchings are directed parallel to the fold axes. In the areas with the recumbent folds or the overturned folds such as the Scottish Highlands, the western Norway, and the central Appalachians, the stretchings are directed perpendicular to the fold axes. The writer's interpretation of these facts, showing differences, in the relations of stretchings to fold axes, assumes a difference in the deformations which were carried out by the orogenic movements, as follows: a) The three-dimensional tectonic movement, the name for the rock which were carried out by it is the three-dimensionl tectonite. In the ordinary fold, the foreward movement in a is at a negligible amount, and the deformation is to a large extent threedimensional. b) The two-dire ensional tectonic movemens, the name for the rock which were carried out by it is the two-dimensional tectonite. In the recumbent or overturned folds, the foreward movement is in a and also at a maximum, and the deformation is to a large extent two-dimensional perpendicular to the fold axis.
