Effect of biliverdin (BVD) on gene expression.

The expressions of macrophage markers (A), adipocytokines (B), master regulators of adipogenesis (B), and NAD(P)H oxidase components (C) were measured in white adipose tissue. Total RNA was extracted from the white adipose tissues of control mice (open bars), high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice (closed bars) and HFD mice treated with biliverdin (BVD) (hatched bars). mRNA expression was measured using real-time RT-PCR and normalized to the expression of β-actin. Results are expressed as means ± SEM. (n = 8). *P < 0.05 and **P < 0.01 (ANOVA).
